A Wonderful Hot Toddy - to make you feel better!

My marvellous Grandmother, who lived very healthily to 93 years of age, was a huge advocate of the curing powers of the  hot toddy.

When we were under the weather, even as children, she would recommend my mother make us a toddy.  The whisky was then  waved over the hot water, but it did certainly have a curative effect, and you knew you really were unwell when Grandma suggested A Wee Toddy.

I still make them today if I'm feeling a little poorly, and as I had  a touch of the flu over New Year I have made some over the last few evenings.

There was a great article by Felicity Cloake in The Guardian yesterday.  Should you want to read more on this winter comforter, please follow the link.

If you are suffering from winter colds or flu I hope you feel better quickly, and this warming pick-me-up comes highly recommended.

Please not this can be made with Scotch whisky or Irish whiskey, my husband is Irish so whiskey is what we tend to have at home, my parents are Scottish, so my Father would have had whisky when I was growing up!

My hot toddy consists of whiskey, a teaspoon of sugar,
a slice of lemon and hot water

Get everything ready while you wait for the kettle to boil

Put in whiskey to taste

Add sugar

Lemon

And boiling water

And to really cheer yourself up
accompany your Hot Toddy with
Christmas Cake and Rococo Chocolate
You'll immediately feel better!

  1. I kept my sister in law supplied with these over xmas when she stayed with us as she was ill too. I use honey instead of sugar but these really do help. Hope you are feeling better? x

  2. We were never given them as children, but I will make myself one now if I have a cold. I use honey too, it's very soothing.
