If we didn't have a dog then I think we would have collapsed in exhaustion before that first school run! Thank goodness he forces us to take some time out , walk and look around.
We are lucky here in Richmond, we have water meadows with an abundance of plant life, and strolling around just shows how much there is on the door step.
As well as blackberries, (I am going to make some of the lovely chutney I have made in the past, and freeze some for crumbles). There are elderberries, crab apples and rose hips.
I am going to spend a day this week researching recipes and hope to make a few things with these bounties.
Do you have any favourite recipes you would recommend? Please let me know.
Apples, nearly ready
I think all the sunshine has given them an added
russet colour, they look so edible
Rosehips, stunning red amongst the green
The blackberries are so juicy they can be eaten
straight from the bramble bush
I do make sure I leave some,
for other foragers and the birds
Great bunches of elderberries on the trees
Yet more apples
It's many years since I have seen so many!
I picked a few elderberries and have made a cordial. I'll post it later this week!
Now, while I walk the dog, I make sure I have several small bags for foraged fruit!
